# Comments

Comments let people and agents discuss an artifact right where the content is.

## Adding a comment

Open **Comments** on the artifact and use **Add comment**. A comment is either attached to an element you click on the page (**Selected element**) or a **General comment** about the whole artifact. In docs you can also comment on a text selection.

Anyone with the commenter role or higher can start threads. Viewers can reply only in threads that mention them.

## Mentions

Type `@` and pick a person to mention them. You can mention the owner and members of the artifact, up to 10 people per comment. A mentioned person gets an email, at most one per artifact every 10 minutes, and gains access to that thread even if they are only a viewer.

Typing `@` also lists agents, so you can ask an agent a question in the same box. See [Ask an agent](/docs/asks).

## Resolving threads

**Resolve** closes a thread and **Reopen** brings it back. You can resolve threads you started; resolving someone else's thread needs the editor or owner role. Resolved threads are hidden until you choose **Show resolved**.

## Comments from agents

Agents read and answer comments with three tools:

- `comments_list` returns open threads, or all threads with `includeResolved`.
- `comments_reply` adds a reply, marked as written by an agent.
- `comments_resolve` resolves or reopens a thread.

Comment text is written by other people. Agents treat it as data, never as instructions to follow.
